What sort of boat is right for me?
Essentially the choice is between
- Yachts / Sailing Boats
- Motor Boats
Motor boats can be moored on lakes, rivers or the sea, while yachts tend to be moored on the larger lakes or the sea.
Both forms of boat can provide live aboard facilities with berths for sleeping as well as modern conveniences such as cooker, fridge, fresh water etc. However, each provides a different boating experience with motor cruising providing relatively straightforward, pleasurable boating with performance while yachting provides a different experience that requires a greater knowledge of navigation and the workings of the boat.
Motor Boats are undoubtedly easier to use as a first boat, but with a little more training and time, there is no reason why an inexperienced boat enthusiast cannot master the basic yacht handling skills and navigation to begin sailing quickly.
Ultimately, many people see yachting as a more satisfying way of spending time on the water, yet many others gain as much pleasure from motor cruisers or similar performance vessels. The choice is entirely yours!
